I (finally) got my F8C in Star Citizen. Here's how.

So, it's Invictus. Day 9. Anvil Aerospace is finally featured.

I finally got my F8C, and if you'd like to get an F8C yourself while it's available, here's how.. Assuming you did one very important thing before the 4.0 wipe: You obtained and redeemed a golden ticket (which would've allowed you to rent it for a 24 hour period at the time).

No golden ticket? Well, you can sorta still get it, just not via the pledge store, which is what we're talking about today.

Anyway, first off: The F8C is a limited sale ship. Beyond the golden ticket requirement (as of writing this; that my change in the future), you'll also only be able to obtain it during some special events. Invictus - the one going on right now - is one such event, and there are 4 days total during it (see the schedule for Invictus Launch Week here) where you can purchase Anvil's limited ships: May 23 & 24 during Anvil's feature days, and May 26 and 27 when they open it back up for all the ships featured. Note that the "day" starts at 11 AM CST, so if it's May 25th at 10 AM CST, you're still good to grab it!

Next: You can't upgrade your game package to it. This threw me off, as it had apparently gone up during a previous event recently, but I had no idea because I was watching for it to be available as a ship upgrade.

In my case, I melted my game package, purchased the Avenger Titan package (my recommended starter, actually), and then used my leftover store credit to buy the F8C as a standalone ship (link to the pledge store F8C here). Note that you CAN use store credit; this isn't a warbond purchase (which is discounted, but can only be purchased with real money). Note that the ship is $300, so be prepared for a hit to the wallet if you don't have enough previous purchases to melt (and before you look at me like that - I've been playing Star Citizen for years, and would upgrade my ship package every year; I've spent less on SC than I did on monthly fees during my Asheron's Call MMO days. fuck off, kindly).

Now, once you've bought it, I strongly encourage you to not melt it down the road.. Yes, the ship has been nerfed a lot recently, but this sort of thing happens with a game that's in alpha: Balancing is continuous, especially as new features and functionality get added. I have no doubt the F8C will gain some of it's lustre back this year.. And for a PvE ship, it's still very solid. I did a quick HRT after having taken a break from SC to learn to fly (and crash) an Apache AH-64D (yes, I'll be following up with more on it later), and my shields didn't even get dropped halfway.

Anyway, hopefully you're able to grab your F8C.. And if you never got a golden ticket before, you can still get the ship from Executive Hanger missions from what I understand, so get some friends together and go run those (and pray a wipe doesn't happen).
