I know, I know: You're probably expecting my first impressions post about Mechwarrior 5: Clans. It's coming, I swear. Don't rush me, dammit! I'm not your dancing robot.
That's actually my point here: When I ran GGN, I was on a schedule. I needed to get content out as quickly as possible; my clicks (and therefore ad revenue) depended on it, and if I was too late on content I'd never gain any traction in search & shares.
Now that I'm taking a "fuck off, it's my time" attitude towards my blogging, I'm feeling much less stress overall, and have enjoyed just playing whatever games are interesting to me at the time (if I game at all).
With that in mind, I decided to to delay my MW5 Clans first impressions - and subsequent review - just because I knew there would be bugs.
That's not to say I haven't touched it yet, however; This morning after sleeping in to a both miraculous and luxurious 4 AM due to complete exhaustion from peopling yesterday, I played a bit of Cyberpunk 2077 (so I can enjoy all the different endings and play a variety of characters), and then did the introduction stuff for MW5: Clans.
I also decided that I'm going to let MW5: Clans percolate a bit (can you guess where I'm writing this write now? Also, please buy me a coffee). Maybe I'll play a little bit here and there, but I do feel like it needs to cook a bit more to clean up some of the glitches that AA games of this scope tend to get.
So, I'm sitting here at my favorite coffee shop writing an editorial about doing whatever I want when it comes to gaming (and I'm also a bit salty because today was supposed to be my range day, but I had to cancel due to some hiccups in transportation).
You see a lot of burnout in the gaming industry. It's not just the developers suffering from tight deadlines, high expectations and insane levels of production quality being the norm: Content producers feel the crunch, too. My steam library is just absolutely massive, filled with games I had intended to review but never got to, because I myself began glitching out due to how stressful it is to take a hobby and make it into something profitable in an exceptionally competitive (and oversaturated) industry.
Of course, if I had early review copies of titles (which happened occasionally with GGN, but never with any big AAA release) I might be more willing to adhere to a deadline, but now?
No. I won't play those games.
I'll play these games.
